How To Save Money On Wheel Repair By Brian Alexander, Road Test Editor

Dinged your rim(s) on a curb, did you? It’s ok, don’t panic. Almost everyone does it. First and foremost, whatever you do, don’t buy a new one! New rims are incredibly expensive and most blemishes and even deep scratches can be repaired fairly easily.

Get yourself over to a local wheel shop that does rim repair as soon as you can. They’ll be able to tell you if you rim is repairable and how much it will cost you. Some shops will repair rims for under $100 each, but expect to pay no more than $200 for a really good patch job. Basically, they fill in the nicks and scratches with a putty-like substance and then paint over the entire rim. This is where it can get tricky.

You’re going to need to get your hands on the exact finish that’s on your rims. Wheel shops will want to charge you a fortune to sample and color match your paint, but the parts department at a local dealer can usually order a can of finish so long as you give them the make, model, year and trim of your vehicle. It shouldn’t be more than a few dollars. Pick up the paint and take it in to the wheel repair shop to avoid unnecessary charges.

If your wheels are gouged beyond repair, look into refurbished wheels. There are parts recyclers out there for just about every make that refurbish old rims and sell them at a reduced cost. They won’t be as shiny and blemish-free as new wheels, but the cost savings makes them well worth it.

Goodyear Tires Eagle F1 All Season Review

The Eagle F1 All Season presenting Carbon Fiber Technology is Goodyear's Ultra High Performance All-Season tire built to give sports car, sporty coupe and performance sedan drivers piece of mind in almost any weather condition. It was produced to blend crisp responsiveness and confident handling with year-round traction, including in light snow.

Eagle F1 All Season radials have a directional tread layout offering performance zones that include a continuous center rib with significant inboard and outboard shoulder blocks for dry road traction and steering precision, along with dual intermediate all-season zones featuring carved Aquachutes to direct rain, slush and snow away from between the tread and the road to resist hydroplaning and improve traction. TredLock Technology interlocking micro grooves enable the biting edges needed for acceleration and braking in bad weather to fit together laterally to enhance handling and gives confident maneuvering during dry road cornering. The tire's internal structure includes double steel belts reinforced by spirally wound DuPont Kevlar on top of a somewhat angled, 2-ply polyester cord body featuring carbon fiber strengthened inboard and outboard sidewalls to help keep the shoulders tightly planted on the highway for crisp responsiveness and maneuverability.

Eagle F1 All Season radials feature Goodyear’s PermaBlack compound additive that keeps new-tire appearance throughout the life of the tire. Eagle F1 All Season radials feature subtle, sleek letters reversed out of a stylized serrated sidewall band and a protective "rim recess" on their lower sidewalls to assist safeguard the wheels from curb damage.

Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke Tires

Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires are tires developed for drivers who take part in organized drifting and drag racing style burnout events. Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires have a special dye mixed throughout their tread compound to make the colored smoke. This special tread compound is molded into Ecsta SPT’s directional tread design that features huge, independent shoulder blocks, four straight circumferential grooves and three solid center ribs to blend predictable handling and stability. On the inside, Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires feature twin steel belts reinforced by a spiral-wrapped, jointless nylon cap ply on top of rayon carcass plies to boost longevity.

The colored smoke tires feature unique sidewall branding confirming their intent, and their tread look reflects the color of the smoke, which will be manufactured. Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires are for competition use only – not intended for public road use. Ecsta SPT Colored Smoke tires will leave a sticky residue on the vehicle’s underbody, suspension, wheel wells and the fenders during continuous burnouts.
