A lot of the XF’s functions, including much of the climate control system, are activated through the multimedia screen, which can make finding the exact option you’re looking for complicated. iPod controls and displays are a bit wonky and it won’t let you go back a song when in shuffle mode.

Interior quality is everything you’d expect from Jaguar, and then some – plush, cushy and elegant. While some might bemoan and exclusive use of an automatic gearbox, Jaguar’s ZF-sourced six-speed is arguably one of the best traditional automatics available today.

In sunny weather, just about everything – typically lavish Jaguar refinement, the heavens above and the supercharged V-8 – blend together into blissful perfection. With the top up, wind noise is nearly nonexistent. Where the regular XK fells like it has just enough power, the supercharged XKR comes across as properly potent.

While the configuration makes the dash look clean, it can be a bother when you’re quickly trying to adjust the seat heaters or just want to change to satellite radio. The XFR also excels at gas-guzzledge. Be prepared to see numbers under 10 mpg if spirited driving ensues.
