For such a small car, the SX4 has a surprising amount of headroom. It also has an impressive list of standard features, four-star crash rating and a 100,000 mile seven year power train warranty, plus it’s one of the least expensive cars on the market to offer all-wheel drive.

With its rear-wheel drive setup and optional high/low four-wheel drive system, it laughs at gravel trails and taunts you to push its limits over rocky terrain. Inside, the Grand Vitara has been improved in nearly every way too; gone are the wonky interior plastics and unflattering design, in are electroluminescent gauges and an ergonomically agreeable cabin.

Tuning has reduced pitch and roll, and the suspension is supple and compliant, meaning that the strong, sporting ride is still forgiving and comfortable. In corners, the Kizashi remains level and especially grippy in the all-wheel drive setup.

Within the compact five-seater, all occupants have a good amount of headroom and legroom, a rare commodity in the segment.
