Entry-Level Premium Car Class
Entry-Level Premium Car Class By Alison Lakin, Associate Editor
2009 Acura TSX
Entry-level premium cars are the rest stop from budget to luxury and their prices, though not bare bones cheap, should put you a little more at ease than those of the upper luxury class. These models also provide a surprising number of upscale features, which you may have thought were out of your financial reach.

Because many cars in this emerging class have similarly smooth and exciting rides, consider focusing on which car can give you the most for the money. Additionally, some of the best cars in this class carry features which will satisfy the tech-savvy as well as offer enough excitement to appease those who crave a little more exhilaration in their daily commute.
The 2009 Acura TSX is a perfect example of this combination. Middle of the pack in price with a starting MSRP of around $29,000, it is an outstanding example of an entry-level premium value. On paper, the TSX's power is a little on the low side, but Acura has managed to squeeze as much torque as possible out of its 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine and its 201 horsepower feels particularly muscular when combined with the 172 lb-ft of torque. Available in a six-speed manual or with a new and thoroughly engaging five-speed Sequential SportShift with paddle shifters, the TSX provides style with speed at a value price.
Hiroyuki Ikegami, Chief Engineer for the Acura TSX, is most proud of "the balance between power, torque and fuel-economy that the new engine achieves. [Acura's] goal was to maximize useable, mid-range power rather than focus on peak performance."
This power balance is indeed evident in the drive, however comfort and safety are hardly put on a backburner in this vehicle. Throughout the roomy interior cabin you'll be treated to standard heated leather and power seats. You'll also find a telescoping steering wheel and a great-sounding stock stereo system.
An optional technology package includes a navigation system for those who tend to be geographically challenged. Keeping you protected is a wide range of safety features - everything from driver and passenger airbags to the stability control is standard.
Lexus too is a brand of car known for its luxury. The 2008 IS250 , for a base cost of $30,555, delivers a strong entry-level premium contender. It comes in rear-wheel or optional all-wheel drive (starting at $34,185), but be warned that the AWD can only be found in an automatic. The clean lines and elegant beauty of this car are easily apparent at first glance.
"You still get the sporty look and the luxury feel of a Lexus, but it's a car that young men and women who have a certain affinity for performance can get into, at an entry-level price tag," says Justus Dobrin, Account Manager at Lexus.
